Ideas for Research and Discussion

In Links in the Chain of Life, Baroness Orczy writes that "artistic training enabled me to see pictorially what later on I attempted to describe with my pen ... They were all pictures before me, real vivid pictures! To translate them with my pen was a comparatively simple matter." How can the ability to see objects and events "pictorially" help in costume design? Set design? How about writing music or writing the story of a musical?

There are many other artists who work together to create The Scarlet Pimpernel, including the Director (Robert Longbottom, original direction by Peter Hunt), the Choreographer (Robert Longbottom, original choreography by Adam Pelty), the Lighting Designer (Natasha Katz), the Sound Designer (Karl Richardson), the Fight Director (Rick Sordelet), the Producers (Radio City Entertainment, Theodore Forstmann) and, of course, the many actors who breathe life into the characters for every performance. Research the role of each job in the theatre. Would you like to try a career in the theatre when you get older? Why or why not?
