How do I get the rights to perform or record a song from the show?

The rights for Pimpernel are available worldwide, and new productions are planned and announced frequently. These are typically standalone productions that are presented by local or regional performing groups. Any stagings that are part of a tour will be clearly marked as such on this site. We post details for any productions that are known to us in the Productions section. Keep an eye on this site and your local theater listings for updates.

If you don't see a production listed for your area, it either means that none is taking place or that it is not known to us. The best way to try and get a production to happen near you is to contact your local theater groups and tell them that you'd like to see the show. Many groups take surveys (online or at performances), of what shows their audience may want to see in an upcoming season. If you know of a production that isn't listed, please send us the details so that we can add it to the site.

Will Pimpernel go on tour again?

Tours of Pimpernel are organized from time to time, in a specific country or countries. When this happens, the details are posted to this site and the production is clearly marked as a tour. If no tours are listed, then none are taking place, or they are not known to us.

If a tour is playing in your country, the best way to suggest that it come to your area is to contact your local theaters and express your interest in the show. This website is not connected with the booking process for any tour.

Will Pimpernel be returning to Broadway?

At this time there are no plans to launch a Broadway revival of Pimpernel. Revivals typically happen many years after the initial production of a show. If any Broadway or other major stagings of the show are planned, they will be announced on this website.

How long is the show?

The show runs approximately two hours and forty minutes, including a fifteen minute intermission. The running time can vary with different productions.

Is the show appropriate for children?

This is a family show, providing entertainment for all ages. The show has tremendous educational value, and portrays virtues such as loyalty, trust, and courage. As the show is set in the height of the French Revolution, we do see two scenes with a guillotine "in action" on stage. There is also sparse use of mild profanity. Assistant Webmaster Nancy contributes this comment:

I don't really see anything negative in SP for kids, and consider the message of it to far outweigh any minor little words here and there. Considering what's on Broadway these days, it's extremely tame. I would bring any kid who's old enough to not be freaked out by the guillotine.

At this time, there is no video or DVD available of the musical version of Pimpernel. No recording has been made, and there are no plans to release one.

How do I get the performing rights to stage the show?

If you are part of a performing group, and want to put on your own staging of Pimpernel, the rights are available from Tams-Witmark. Full details on this have been provided on the Show Rights page.

How can I get an audition for the show? Can you help me with that?

This website isn't directly connected with any of the productions of the show that take place. We aren't part of their casting process, and we can't assist in getting you an audition. However, when we do know the audition details for a production, we include them in the listings in the Productions section. You can also check the website of the performing group, or contact them directly for more information and audition scheduling. Break a leg!

Is a script of the show available?

Scripts of some Broadway musicals are released on the market for purchase. This is not the case with Pimpernel, and no script is available except in connection with licensing and producing the show. If you are still trying to decide if you want to put on a production, you can contact Tams-Witmark and ask about a "perusal copy" of the script. If a script is ever released on the market, we will post the news on this website.

Why does the songlist on the recording differ from that in the show?
(Or: Why were "Only Love", "Believe", and "Vivez" cut from the show?)

The show has gone through four separate incarnations. The first (SP1) is reflected on the Original Broadway Cast Recording. Included in the changes from SP1 to SP2 were several changes to the songlist. The "Encore!" recording was released to match the new song order in SP2. The national tour is considered SP4, and has a songlist similar to both the second and third versions of the show.

What's the best way to keep up with past performers from the show?

Fans who support Pimpernel often follow the careers of the show "alumni" - past cast members from the Broadway or other productions of the show. We try to post all of the current and upcoming activities of the Broadway and first national tour cast members in the Alumni Updates section of this website. How do I get in touch with past performers from the show?

If you want to get in touch with a past performer, the first step is to check for a website or fan club devoted to that person. Some official (and even unofficial) sites have a direct contact e-mail address you can use, or a guestbook or message board where you can leave them a note.

To send "snail mail" to a performer, the most accepted and effective practice is to send your letter in care of a show in which they are appearing. It is best to find a current or upcoming show and send your letter so it will arrive while they are there, and will be for several more weeks (to allow for delivery time). Will any of the past Pimpernel stars perform in the same roles again?

Many fans of Pimpernel, both old and new, want to know about opportunities to see previous stars who performed in the show. This happens rarely, and is an exception rather than a rule. Usually, a performer will appear in one production of a show and then move on to other projects. When "alumni" do continue to work on new productions of the same shows, it is usually mentioned prominently in the show announcements (including in the Productions section of this site, when we know about it). Also keep an eye on the Alumni Updates section as well as theater news sources and performers' websites for updates of this kind.

Is there a recording of the wedding version of "You Are My Home"?

The wedding version of "You Are My Home" (as sung by Percy and Marguerite) has not been recorded and released.

Where can I find printed lyrics to songs from the show?

Lyrics for songs from Pimpernel can be found in the liner notes for the albums on which they appear. This is true for all of the English-language recordings of the show.

Where can I get sheet music for songs from the show?

There is currently one songbook available for the show, which you should be able to locate at any local or online sheet music retailer. Further details and an online purchasing link can be found on the Songbooks page.

Is sheet music avaiable for the song "Prayer"?

Unfortunately, sheet music for Percy's "Prayer" has not been published.

Where can I find sheet music for "I'll Forget You"?

The song "I'll Forget You" has been printed in two songbooks, the one for the Pimpernel concept album, and the one for Linda Eder's album "And So Much More." Both of these are now out of print, and can be very difficult to find. For suggestions on how to search for these, read the next answer.

How do I find out of print songbooks?

The songbook for the Concept Album is out of print, which means it can be rather difficult to find. Your best chances are to watch online auctions or used sheet music sources for it.

Is a full score of the show available?

The full score of Pimpernel has not been published and released on the market. It is only available in connection with licensing and producing the show. If a score does become available, an update will be posted to this website.
